Each planet has been assigned rulership of certain Nakshatras as indicated below:-

The ‘Sankhya-Patanjali’ system mentions that the planet acquires certain GUNAs (MERITs) by virtue of its occupation or situation in a Nakshatra. This GUNA modifies or influences the houses concerned. Each NAKSHATRA transfers certain GUNAs to the planets positioned in the Nakshatra.
There are 3 such type of GUNAs viz:
1) TAMAS-Indolence
2) RAJAS-Restlessness
3) SATTWA-Truth.
GUNA of each planet by virtue of their placement in various Nakshatras are as follows:

All the three GUNA’s are inter-related. Essence, Energy and Mass or Inertia ( Resistance, Restlessness and Reality ) are always combined in one person. The only difference is that one GUNA will be always predominant in the nativities belonging to the concerned GUNA group and the other GUNAs become latent.
